This will be our version of PLAY and what a Fall League should be about in terms of helping players transfer skills, learn through mistakes, receiving high quality game repetitions, gain confidence, improving
basketball IQ, and most importantly teaching players "HOW TO PLAY".
Instead of just placing players and putting them on equal teams then letting them play 5 on 5 with hopes
of getting better, we are going to take it a step further and do our best to make sure our players DO get
better. Sunday nights(Prep School) we will improve our kids when it is time to play.
Here is how it will take place:
Week 1: All players will participate in the Breakaway Combine. The combine will consist of 6 skill
stations followed by 3 on 3- Full court- Short court games. At the completion of the combine all players
will be drafted to a team that they will be part of all of Prep School and coached by a Breakaway coach.
Week 2 & 3: The first 15 minutes players will go over proper spacing and principles in attacking a 3 on 2 defense and then also be taught defensively how to put yourself in a position to be successful. Each team
will then play 5 -10 minute games of 3 on 2 Breakaway Progression. Every team will play each other one
time while gaining overall team points for wins that will be recorded.
Week 4: The first 15 minutes players will go over proper spacing and principles in attacking a 4 on 3 defense and then also be taught defensively how to put your self in a position to be successful. Each
team will then play 5 -10 minute games of 4 on 3 Breakaway Progression. Every team will play each
other one time while gaining overall team points for wins that will be recorded.
Week 5: The head coach of each team will split his team into 2- 5 player teams. Teams will then play 6 - 10 minute Full court-Short court 3 on 3 games. Every win will be a point for the TEAM overall point total.
Week 6: Players will play 5- 15 minute Full Court games- HS players will play 5- 20 minute games. Wins will go to the point total of each team.
Week 7: Based on each team's final point total everyone will be placed on their respective court based on their record. Their will be three courts. The top 2 teams will start on the top court, the middle two teams
will be placed on the middle court, and the bottom two teams will be placed on the bottom court. However we will then have 6 different game challenges and the team that wins moves up and the team
that loses goes down. At the end of the night who ever wins their final game on the top court wins the 2019 Prep School Championship!
The goal of Prep School is to help our players get better and we are going to make sure we are doing the work on our end to make sure that happens. It would be easier for us as a program to just run a Fall
League and let kids play 5 on 5 games every week. The kids will have fun, but the goal of getting better does not always take place. We want our players to have fun, but we want to make sure we are getting
better. Kids don't have more fun because they play more, kids have more fun when they get better and when they do play they start having success. This program will provide an environment where players can
truly get better and learn while continue to be extremely competitive and challenge themselves against other players to Play".
